  Back to where I started
Posted by: Reserector - 09-19-2022, 07:20 PM - Forum: Ride Reports - Replies (1)

My primary mission was to travel from Laurel, Mississippi with my mother's ashes and lay them to rest in a grave in Port Republic, New Jersey.
Total mileage was just over 2,600.

Mom was the first to introduce me to riding at age 2, so it seemed only fitting that I take her home with a motorcycle. You see, I couldn't bury her ashes right away because the ground was frozen, so I took her back to Mississippi with plans to finish what I promised at a later date. Eight years later, I fulfilled that promise.

I made the first leg in two days, stopping overnight at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA. It was a weird setup with raised wooden platforms. Had to improvise a bit. The trek up the hill was no joke, either. Steep and wet. I slept well, though.

The rain in the forecast stayed just ahead of me the whole way. I got to my friend Joe's house dry.

We took care of Mom's ashes the next morning. May she test in peace.

From there, I visited old friends and a cousin. One friend has a shop and a collection of vintage dirt bikes that would blow your mind.

Another friend has a stock car currently driven by Tyler Truex. (Yes, related to Martin Truex.)
We are all racers or former racers of some sort. Mostly enduro.

From there, I headed west to Williamstown, PA to visit my niece. After that, I pointed the FJR south toward the Tail of the Dragon where I stayed at the Iron Horse Lodge. (Familiar surroundings.)

What have you done for your bike today?

This is a thread where we can post the little things we do for our bikes. Maintenance, a new sticker, whatever. It all matters. Post it.

  Mini Air Compressor
Posted by: Reserector - 08-27-2022, 07:50 PM - Forum: Mods and Projects - No Replies

More like a chopper version of a cheapo compressor.

The goal is to have a compressor to compliment the tire plug kit that I carry.

I've done this before with my YZF600RR and actually needed it once. I just thought I'd rig up a fresh one for the FJR1300.

Here's how it's done:
Buy a cheap compressor from a bargain store, eBay or Harbor Freight.

Remove the case and toss it.

Secure the wires. Mine broke immediately, so I resoldered them and secured them with a cable tie,

I would love to have deleted the gauge and moved the hose to that location, but it's construction makes that difficult at best.

Here's how it works. It's awkward, but it will do in a pinch.

I like to replace the flimsy round 12v plug with an SAE connector. Mine are missing at the moment, but I will do that as soon as I find them.

Pack it neatly and slide it into a padded envelope and slide THAT into a zip-loc bag. Toss in a silica gel pack if you have one.

Mine fits under the pillion on my Gen 1 FJR1300.

  Where it all started
Posted by: Reserector - 08-23-2022, 12:01 AM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

It all started at age 2 riding on a Hodaka gas tank with my parents.
At age 4, I rode one of these mini-bikes.

Teachers wondered why I stared out the window so much in elementary school. "There's nothing out there" she would say.
She just could not see me out there riding. But I sure could. Riding my imaginary dirt bike until I could go home and ride for real.

Homework? No, Mom. She didn't give us any. So, can I go ride now? :-)

I'm 59 this year, and it still excites me. I cannot explain it, and I won't apologize for it. I'm a rider. Always have been.[Image: 03a709f3e2e44c0f7047ca2f8678268b.jpg]
